Installation Works – Solar Powered AIS Class B for Cold Lay-Up Vessels

Eastern OPL | 29–30 May 2020 — EDM Global Tech Sdn Bhd successfully carried out the installation of Solar-Powered AIS Class B Transponders on selected lay-up vessels at Eastern OPL, enabling continuous vessel identification and tracking without dependence on onboard power supply.

The deployed solution uses the TB560 AIS Class B Transponder with integrated solar power, specifically designed to support autonomous long-term operation in marine environments. The system is engineered to provide optimal power management, allowing continuous AIS transmission even when vessel power is unavailable. In addition to solar charging, the internal battery provides more than five (5) days of standby power reserve, ensuring operational continuity during low-sunlight conditions.

Each unit is supplied with a complete mounting bracket system, enabling secure and robust installation using existing vessel structures such as poles or railings. The high-efficiency solar panel is specially ruggedised for long-term deployment in harsh commercial marine environments, while the aluminium mounting bracket ensures mechanical stability and resistance to corrosion.

This solution is particularly suitable for laid-up, anchored, or inactive vessels, where maintaining AIS transmission is essential for navigational safety, traffic monitoring, and regulatory compliance, but where vessel power systems may be shut down.

The successful deployment demonstrates EDM Global Tech’s capability to deliver innovative, energy-independent maritime tracking solutions, supporting safe navigation and effective vessel monitoring even under non-operational vessel conditions.
